Justin was born and raised in the Canadian border city of Windsor Ontario, across the river from Detroit Michigan - son of a nurse and a professional hockey referee/high power electrical lineman. At the age of 17, he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 7th round of the 1992 Amateur Draft and signed to play professionally directly out of high school. While playing baseball, Justin maintained his academics, earning his Bachelor of Arts in Film and Communications from the University of Windsor. Upon graduating, he hung up his cleats and travelled west to continue studying filmmaking and media arts at the Vancouver Film School. In 2002 his first short film travelled the festival circuit, starting at Slamdance Film Festival and ending at the Modern Museum of Art in Rome Italy. Along the way, the film earned Audience Choice Award for Best Experimental Film at the Brooklyn International Film Festival.
Justin continued to work and live in Vancouver as a filmmaker, designer and photographer, working in fashion, hospitality, music, film and web. He teamed up with Vancvouer artists and etnrepreneurs; namely fashion designer Hajnalka Mandula, illustrator Ehren Salazar, restauranteurs Sean Heather & Nigel Springthorpe and writer/producer Jon Cooksey.
In 2007 he met Mexican illustrator/cartoonist Ani Castillo. They began working together, and that spring, decided to move east and landed in Toronto where Justin spent 3 years as Lead Designer/Art Director for the Drake Hotel.
His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, Elle Magazine, GQ, NUVO, McCleans, The Vancouver Sun, EnRoute Magazine, The National Post, Toronto Life & The Toronto Star.
Justin currently works for clients across the globe from a small town in Southern Ontario.
